How to be a participating employer?

CICS believes that one of the best ways to reach commuters is at their workplace. The level of employee participation in alternative modes of transportation quite often depends on the endorsement of senior managers and the types of incentives offered by the employer. CICS encourages all area employers to fully implement the program and be pro-active employers as described below.

 
Participating employers will do the following:
 
  • Publicize CICS to its workforce through an intranet, company newsletter, posters, brochure displays, or email alerts.
  • Hold an event to introduce CICS to its employees, such as a benefits fair, a company wide survey, transportation fair, or brown bag.
  • Appoint an Employee Transportation Coordinator who serves as the liaison for CICS and promotes alternative modes of transportation.
 
Pro-active employers can do the following
 
 
  • Sponsor an annual event for employee participation at the work site
  • Include CICS brochure in all new hire packets
  • Continually promote ridesharing and transit use through internal communications
  • Recognize those employees who are doing the right thing
  • Display CICS materials throughout the worksite
  • Include a link on the company web site to CICS
  • Offer preferential parking for carpoolers and vanpoolers
  • Offer subsidies or tax benefits for vanpoolers and transit riders
  • Provide incentives, such as gas cards, additional vacation days, gift certificates, etc. to promote alternative commute options
